On My Mind

You have to wonder how art figures into all this global chaos... It's like we are the central pole around which a kind of economic madness swirls. Why do we do this stuff anyway? I would love to hear some feelings on this issue. Creative work seems to me to be a combination of a kind of cancerous obsession and orgasmic joy. What do you think?

Obsession is a path to excellence if tempered with balance; orgasmic joy or joyful orgasms, can't think of a downside there! It may well be the only thing left after all of the madness are the advances and accomplishments of the arts and sciences. I'm sure there were successful business people, and no doubt some great statesmen during, say, 1685-1750. But the only thing that really matters now from that period is Bach. (I'm not up on baroque scientists!) You might query the great mind of Wayne Roberts for a more informed view.

Nick- I am just tapping into Wayne Roberts. I did not know of his profound work and am deeply grateful for the mention of his work. I feel a deep correspondence and hope to spend some time studying his writings et al.
